StartupBlink believes in the power of success stories and their psychological impact on creating an entrepreneurial mindset. The strength of startup ecosystems lies in the diverse range of projects and players, and, from now on, “Pantheon companies” as well. Pantheons are both present and former unicorns that made a substantial impact on the international level.
Such companies revolutionized industries, inspired the creation of other projects and added to the local economies. Their success stories persist despite the fact that the company has no longer the same importance. In order to evaluate the power of location in Startup Ecosystem Rankings Report, we will take into account unique supernovas that stood the test of time and are continuing to influence the startup ecosystem in various ways.
We have identified two types of Pantheons:
- The ones that are massively successful present corporates creating a lot of jobs, providing knowledge and resource to the ecosystem. Among such companies, Google, Amazon, Facebook.
- Companies that have lost grace or are no longer relevant but were taking a leading role in the startup ecosystem before or have built an innovation scene with financial support, for example, Nokia.
Even though the software is eating the world and plenty of giant companies are focusing on innovation, including McDonald’s and Coca Cola, we give preference to the Pantheon list whose main focus is the tech industry (e.g. IBM).
In addition, a pantheon should have a global element as well. One example is TikTok- first application based in China that took the world by storm. It is a great prove that innovation from China can be relevant and influence the world and users’ use of the internet. Other than that, its’ impact on the Chinese ecosystem is immeasurable.
Pantheon companies are scattered all over the world, from North America to Asia.
Some of the auspicious examples include:
Microsoft (United States, Seattle) which is a technology company that develops, manufactures, licenses, supports and sells computer software, electronics and related services.
Skype (Sweden, Stockholm) is a telecommunications application that provided video chat and voice calls between computers, tablets, mobile devices, the Xbox One console, and smartwatches via the Internet.
